Forensic Botany

Dr. Caroline Gregory (nee Hillier) has past experience of the use of diatoms in forensic science, gained while working at the University of Durham. She has co-authored a peer-reviewed paper on the subject (Horton, Boreham and Hillier, 2006), and has experience of applying diatom-based techniques in several serious crime trials, where she has provided expert witness services.

Caroline is available to carry out diatom-based forensic analysis through Argus Ecology, working in conjunction with laboratory analysis at Durham University. Recent projects carried out include diatom analysis for archaeological reconstruction, carried out on behalf of Cambridge Archaeological Unit.

Caroline would be pleased to discuss how this method could be applied in crime investigation or other forensic applications with police officers or other legal professionals.
