Argus Ecology carried out an initial ecological survey of a vacant industrial plot, identifying a number of potential ecological constraints and complex protected species issues. This was followed up by detailed bird, badger, amphibian and vegetation surveys. Licences were obtained to relocate a subsidiary badger sett close to the site. Argus Ecology oversaw the construction of an artificial badger sett, and oversaw the exclusion of badgers from the existing sett prior to construction works on site. A great crested newt licence was also required due to loss of terrestrial habitat close to a breeding pond; mitigation measures were formulated and put into practice, including new pond construction.
